The Andamans have a reputation among serious anglers for one reason: the ground is genuinely wild and very lightly fished. Steep drop-offs, hard current, pristine reef and water clear enough to watch a fish commit — over an area that sees a fraction of the pressure the Maldives or Thailand does.

Giant trevally and dogtooth tuna are the headline. Both hold resident populations here throughout the season, and both are known for winning more fights than they lose along the reef edges and jagged drop-offs. This is heavy popping and high-intensity vertical jigging, and it demands tackle you trust.

From early November the billfish move in — blue and black marlin, sailfish and yellowfin tuna, targeted by trolling and live bait offshore.

Not everything has to be heavy. Scale down for non-stop light and micro jigging over the reef, where the species variety is wide enough that you may land something the boats here haven't recorded before.

Fishing is based out of Port Blair, with the option to shift base to Little Andaman or North Andaman when conditions allow — opening up ground that sees even fewer boats. Itineraries are built around the moon phase rather than a fixed schedule, which is a large part of why targeting big GT and dogtooth here is a realistic expectation rather than a hopeful one.

Departures are timed to catch the best of the tide. Run times to the grounds are 45 minutes to an hour and a half, freshly cooked lunches come aboard, and boats are back in port by 1700 in line with local regulations. Days are full but finite.

Six fishing days, all-inclusive — accommodation, all meals, transfers and guiding. Shorter 4 to 6 day programmes are available, and trips can be customised around what you want to fish.

Trip Programme

Day 1 — Arrival

You'll be met at Port Blair airport and transferred by road to your accommodation, around 20 minutes away. The rest of the day is yours: set up your tackle, meet your guide, and talk through the fishing plan for the week over a drink. Nothing is rushed on the first day.

Day 2 — First Fishing Day

Departure is timed to catch the best of the tide rather than to a set clock, which is what maximises your chances rather than your comfort. Run time to the grounds is 45 minutes to an hour and a half depending on where you're headed.

Bottled water, soft drinks and snacks are aboard throughout, and freshly cooked packed lunches come with you — substantial enough to keep you going and practical enough to eat on a moving boat.

Boats return to port by 1700 in line with local regulations, so days are full but predictable.

Days 3–7 — Fishing Days

Five more full days on the water. Each day you'll head out with your boat and crew to different ground, fishing different methods or targeting the species you've chosen. Where you go is decided by conditions, tides and what's producing — not by a fixed itinerary.

You'll return each evening to the accommodation specified on your service voucher.

Day 8 — Departure

Transfer to the airport for your domestic flight to the mainland and your onward connection.

Accommodation throughout: Kokari Guesthouse or equivalent, twin room, full board.

What to Expect

The operator has worked these waters since 2006 and has marked hundreds of productive spots across an enormous area — steep drop-offs, pristine reef, ripping current and water clear enough to watch a fish commit. That accumulated local knowledge is the difference between fishing the Andamans and fishing them well.

The Andamans are known for explosive surface action. Heavy chugging poppers over reef edges and jagged drop-offs, with giant trevally and dogtooth tuna that have a reputation for winning more battles than they lose. High-intensity vertical jigging over the same ground produces the same fish.

Offshore, troll and live bait for billfish and tuna — blue and black marlin, sailfish and yellowfin from November onwards.

Or scale everything down. Light and micro jigging over the reef gives you non-stop action and a species list wide enough that you may land something the boats here haven't recorded before.

Both experienced and first-time anglers are welcome. The programme is built around what you want to fish and what you're capable of.

Pricing is set per season. Whether you book directly with us or through an overseas agent, the rate is the same — there's no advantage to shopping around, and that's deliberate.

Visas, Permits & Insurance

Arranging these is your responsibility, and the Andamans need more paperwork than most destinations. Start early.

• Indian visa — required in advance for most nationalities. This is not a visa-on-arrival destination.
• Restricted Area Permit — the Andaman and Nicobar Islands require additional permits for foreign nationals.
• Travel and medical insurance — compulsory for this trip, not optional.
• Passport validity — six months beyond your date of entry.
